?He was 13 when he was arrested?? ? Delta police officer raises alarm over children?s exposure to explicit content online

A Delta State police officer has raised concerns over children’s exposure to explicit content online, recounting a disturbing case involving a 13-year-old boy.

Speaking during an interview about her viral warning that smartphones are becoming one of the biggest threats to the current generation, the officer recalled a case reported on December 30, 2025.

According to her, a mother contacted the police late at night after someone threatened to publish her 16-year-old daughter’s nude photos online.

Police investigated the phone number involved and traced it to an address in Sapele, Warri, where they discovered that the person behind the account was a 13-year-old boy.

The boy initially claimed the phone belonged to his sister, but later admitted that he had been the one communicating with the girl and threatening her.

The officer said the boy revealed that he had been exposed to pornography after encountering explicit content while using his father’s phone. She said he had also been given access to social media from a young age without adequate supervision or guidance.

According to the officer, the boy had owned and used a phone since he was about five years old.

She questioned the level of parental supervision children receive online and asked who should be held responsible when young children are exposed to harmful content without proper guidance.
