Nigeria’s Super Eagles initiated their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday night, September 25

The fixture was highlighted by goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor, who scored in either half to overturn Madagascar’s early lead.  

Madagascar opened the scoring after capitalizing on a swift transition to beat goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and silence the home supporters.  

Nigeria responded before the interval, with George 
striking in the first minute of added time to restore parity and mark his senior international debut with a goal.  

The equalizer sent both teams into the break level at 1-1.  

Following the restart, Nigeria intensified their pressure, with captain Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi establishing control in midfield.  

The sustained offensive tempo produced the decisive goal as Moses Usor netted the winner in the second half to complete Nigeria’s comeback and secure all three points.  

The result ensures Éric Chelle’s side a successful opening to their Group L campaign.  

Nigeria will travel to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29, while Madagascar host Tanzania on the same date.  

The Super Eagles were without striker Victor Osimhen, who missed the opening fixtures due to injury.  

Nigeria currently occupy second place in Group L with three points, level with leaders Guinea-Bissau on goal difference, while Tanzania and Madagascar remain without a point.
