Human rights lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor has strongly criticized youths who barricaded a major roadway to prevent the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, from proceeding on his visit to Benue State.

The confrontation occurred on Tuesday, September 8, after suspected thugs blocked an access road near Gyado Villa along Gboko Road in Makurdi following Obi’s arrival in the state, preventing his entourage from continuing towards scheduled visits.

Addressing the disruption in a statement shared on his official X account, Ejimakor questioned why those who mounted the blockade had failed to confront armed groups responsible for widespread violence across the state.

He accused the demonstrators of targeting Obi specifically because of his Igbo ethnic background and drawn parallels to historic political missteps.

“These Benue protesters and thugs that barricaded and stopped Peter Obi from entering Benue, let me ask you: When will you barricade the terrorists that have been killing thousands in your state? Or is it only when it comes to the Igbo? This is how you messed yourselves up in the Civil War,” Ejimakor wrote.
