Police arrest 15 suspects for attacking, k!lling Edo security personnel

The Edo State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the fatal st@bbing of an Edo State Security Network (ESSN) personnel in Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area of the state. 

 

The command also detained 11 others over a separate attack on security operatives in Sobe on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

 

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Eno Ikhoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, August 24. 

 

According to the statement, at about 10:00am, one Ojo Gabriel of Atoruru Village reported an assault and malicious damage case at Sobe Division after youths damaged window glasses of his residence and vehicle.

 

Police detectives and personnel of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) were mobilised to the scene.

 

Ikhoedem stated that on sighting the security personnel, the youths attacked them, damaging the side glass of a police patrol vehicle and assaulting ESSC members.

 

Two locally-made single-barrel guns belonging to the security personnel were also taken away.

 

The command spokesman added that three Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) personnel – Tunde Ali, Izedu Monday and Charles Ighororo – sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

 

According to the police, during the confrontation, three unidentified youths sustained pellet injuries, while one later d!ed while receiving treatment at David and Stella Hospital, Sabongida-Ora.

 

His remains have been deposited at Heavenly Home Mortuary, Sabongida-Ora as efforts continue to establish his identity and contact his family, the police spokesman disclosed.

 

The command further said 11 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the Sobe incident and the two guns have been recovered.

It added that security has been reinforced in the area by police and military personnel and normalcy has been restored.

 

The command said at about 12:20pm on the same day, it received a distress call reporting an attack on ESSN personnel, Martins Enahoro, by suspected members of the Aro Berger confraternity, including persons known as Gbozia and Gezo, among others.

 

Enahoro subsequently sustained multiple cut injuries.

 

Both men were rushed to God’s Will Hospital, Ewohimi, where they were confirmed d3ad by the doctor on duty.

 

The police said their remains were deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.

 

According to the command, four suspects have been arrested in connection with the Ewatto incident.

 

Two of the suspects have confessed to belonging to the Vikings and Aiye confraternity cults, the police said.

 

The command further stated that all suspects have been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

 

The command disclosed that Police Mobile Force, Squadron 82, has been deployed to the area as reinforcement.

 

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, condemned the attacks on security personnel and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

 

He also called for useful information to assist ongoing investigations.

 

“The command warns that attacks on security personnel are criminal offences and will not be tolerated.

 

“We remain committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable is made to face the law,” Daaor said.
